1st Bay Series 2017-18
A big thanks to all who contributed to the October 1st Bay series breakfast and especially to the set-up and clean-up crews!! Congratulations to all the participants. Results posted here. This is the first Bay Series of the Season and we are looking forward to the events scheduled for 2017-18.
Rowing events are a great way to get your volunteer hours in. We always need help on the water and in the dining areas. Please sign up. The next event is Saturday, November 7th – “The Naples Island Challenge”. Please email BCA Regatta Director, Mike McAndrews at Michael_mcandrews@yahoo.com to volunteer.
Nominations 2017-18 Board of Directors
In preparation for the October 2017 election of LBRA’s 2017-2018 Board of Directors, the Nominating Committee is requesting nominations for all board positions from LBRA’s membership. Per LBRA’s By-Laws, nomination of a candidate is to be “submitted by any two general members.” Nominators as well as nominees must be LBRA members in good standing.
From the By-Laws: “Only those members who have been a member for a period of at least six months… shall be eligible to hold elective office.”
Nine (9) Board of Directors positions are available. Per bylaws, Nominating Committee’s goal is to identify at least two nominees for each elective office:

Aquatic Capital of America 2017 Induction Ceremony
Thursday, September 21 from 6:00-10:00 pm, the LBRA boathouse will be the venue for the second annual induction ceremony and dinner for the Aquatic Capital of America foundation Hall of Fame. Our own John Nunn will be honored at the ceremony.

Any incumbents currently serving on the board who are interested in serving again must still be nominated & seconded by LBRA members in good standing in order to run for office again.

Long Beach Sea Scouts

LBRA hosts the Long Beach Sea Scouts summer camp, July 28. An introduction to the sport of rowing, the equipment we use, and our rich history as part of the Aquatic Capital of America.
One of these kids just might end up representing the US at the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles!
Special thanks to Maggie Fellows (SoCal Scullers) as well as Bill Eldon and Dean Saunders for their fantastic volunteer support. Additional mentions to Ellen Kirk and Jack Geortner for their role in making the event happen.

Final schedule for upcoming LBRA events
Regatta Schedule. The final schedule for LBRA-sponsored regattas over the next year is:
November 4, 2017
Naples Island Challenge (4500 meter collegiate and masters head race, sponsored jointly by LBRA and Beach Crew Association)
December 3, 2017
LBRA Christmas Regatta (1000 meter sprints. Events for youth, collegiate, and masters rowers)
January 27, 2018
Beach Sprints (2000 meter indoor ergometer sprints. Events for youth, collegiate, and masters rowers)
March 10-11, 2018
LBRA Spring Regatta (1000 and 2000 meter sprints. Events for youth, collegiate, and masters rowers)
July 14-15, 2018 – tentative
USRowing Southwest Regional Masters Championship (1000 meter sprints, masters only)
Bay Series events (5300 and 4200 meter head races open to youth, collegiate, and masters rowers) are likely to be held on October 1, 2017; December 10, 2017; January 7, 2018; February 4, 2018; and March 4, 2018.
The Naples Island head race is the only date that has been officially approved by the Board at this time. The rest are per historical precedent and subject to change, especially the SW Regionals — we are in negotiations with USRowing and will proceed only if it’s in the mutual best interest of USRowing and LBRA.
