Adult Learn to Row Program
The following is the description of the learn to scull class and schedule which costs $150/person ( group situation ). Some of this you may already be familiar with:
In order to row you need to start stop turn and back up. Sort of like driving a car . We start off in singles so that each person learns at there own pace. What we don’t want to happen is for one to feel they are holding up the team boat which are 2,4,or 8 persons. This would happen if someone is put in a team boat before they are ready. They are thinking about themselves instead of making this boat right here right now go. When this happens it is my fault and the new rower does not have a successful experience. The beginning program is geared to the introduction of rowing in team boats once the basic skills are attained. We have Friday night rows from 6:00 PM to 7:30 after memorial weekend through the end of August for newbies in team boats usually an 8 with a coach and a person who steers the boat.
At the end of the introductory course you will be qualified to row a recreational single use an indoor rower and have rowed in a team boat. You will then be able to make an informed decision if you want to join the association to continue rowing.
Individual membership for one year is $480 or $240( depending if you are 23 years or older) subtracting $40 for taking the qualification course. As a member you can access boathouse and row from 5 AM to 10 PM. We also have a nice gym with lots of indoor rowers and weights
INTRODUCTORY CLASSES are formed around availability of rowers. Which is sometimes difficult to schedule. We don’t want to turn someone away because we don’t offer instruction at a time when they can use the boat house.
SCHEDULING
What you need to do is to commit to two weeks of classes, they are SEQUENCED 1,2,3,4 and start every two weeks or so depending if weather or an event at rowing center conflicts with class schedule. TIMES ARE NOT SET IN STONE.
WEEKEND classes are offered Sat at 10:15 to 12:30 pm and Sunday at 9AM to11:15 for two weeks. I will then schedule you for a team boat row.
WEEKDAY MORNINGS START TIMES variable 5:15 to 9:15 AM. We have to dance around the college which rows from 5:30 to 7:30 AM- SEPT until MAY.
JUNE through AUGUST there is a summer camp for kids which is more manageable.
