2000 & 1000 Meter Rowing Races

The Pete Archer Spring Regatta is raced on the Historic 1932 Olympic rowing venue and is a tune up for competitors planning to race in the San Diego Crew Classic.  It also affords single and sometime double scullers a chance at a 2000 meter race early in the season.  After the 2000 meter races are completed (at approximately 10:00 AM) the course will be shortened to 1000 meters.  Kayak and Canoe races will be held in between rowing events while boats are being recovered for switching crews and should not affect the length of the regatta. The events listed on the entry form have been requested for this regatta, but we are open to others.  In order to assemble a schedule to honor these requests, we need information about the usage of shells so that borrowing, hot seating and recovery can be accomplished without delay to the races (it takes a minimum of 28 minutes between races to hot seat a boat).  Finals for races that have heats should be 28 to 35 minutes after the last heat.  2000 meter races will only be four lanes because of the bridge and swimming area.  To avoid heats and finals for 2000 meter races, the race committee may race club "A" boats (assumed the fastest), "B" boats (next fastest), etc.. against each other.  The race committee may also separate light weight from heavies or start races past the bridge (which would be 1500 meters).  If there are not enough boats entered to make an event viable, then regular (non mixed) boats could be rowed in an earlier time slot without conflict (with the exception of open water, novice1X and adaptive categories).  The hope is that all participants will be able to row at least three events.

Coaches and Coxes meeting  - This course is easy racing!  We have no coaches & coxswain's meeting.  So Please educate your rowers and coxswains on the following information: Racing is held in the Marine Stadium (click here for directions). There will be three non-buoyed lanes for 2,000 meter racing and seven non-buoyed lanes for 1,000 meter racing. The shore/beach side is Lane 1 and the Boathouse side is Lane 7.  Coxswains keep your course as close to the beach side as possible and OUT of race lanes. The start of the 2,000 meter race is past the bridge at the end of the waterway.  The start of the 1,000 meter race is just ahead of the 1,000 meter pole, located in the water directly across from the boathouse.  The finish is at the final pole before the water's end, located on the boathouse side inside the stadium. All launching and landing will be from the west beach of the Marine Stadium (beach side). This holds for all college, open, Jr.’s and masters crews alike. Launching from concrete boat landings is prohibited since they are extremely slippery and encrusted with razor-sharp mussels.

bulletTrailers:  If you arrive Saturday BEFORE sundown, please park between the 500 meter pole and the finish line area.  DO NOT park inside the gated area closest to the beach.  Saturday AFTER sundown, you can drive your trailer inside the gated area closest to the beach.  If you arrive after sundown, be sure to call ahead about 1 to 2 hours PRIOR to your arrival and our President Jim (310-466-5814) or will unlock the main gates for you. If you arrive Sunday morning, the gates are opened approximately 6:30AM.

If you would like us to add an event, fax your request to LBRA at (562) 961-0105 or email Sabrina Aris-Guentz and include a return fax, club affiliation and/or phone number.

Please be mindful of the residences next to the stadium and that quiet hours are from 5:00-7:00 a.m.  Venue opens at 6:30 a.m. race day.
